AEA KU4 Ribbon Microphone at Front End Audio

AEA has just announced that the their newest microphone, the AEA KU4 Unidirectional Ribbon Microphone is now ready to ship and Front End Audio is taking orders!

AEA's new KU4 supercardioid ribbon microphone is now available through AEA dealers worldwide. The KU4 is a modern interpretation of the KU3A unidirectional microphone (also known by its manufacturing number MI-10001) designed by RCA for the Hollywood movie industry in the late 1940s. The KU4 combines the smooth ribbon sound of a 44 with a unidirectional pattern, a wide sweet spot and reduced proximity bass boost. Since RCA only built 600 of the KU3As, these microphones have become rare collectors items admired by the few engineers who have had the chance to use them. Now AEA offers you the opportunity to use this unique microphone.

The KU4's increased rear rejection of the supercardioid polar pattern reduces the amount of room sound, which is often desired in modern production applications, particularly vocal recording. With a high quality transformer, strong neodymium magnets and a low-tuned RCA new-old stock ribbon, the KU4 continues AEA's legacy for wide-bandwidth, top-quality ribbon microphones handmade in Pasadena, CA.

Two KU4 microphones were recently used by Grammy award winning producer Gustavo Borner on lead vocals for the broadcast of the historic MTV Unplugged featuring Los Tigres Del Norte. The broadcast will premiere on May 22 on MTV Latin America and Spain, Tr3s, and VH1 Latin America. The new album MTV Unplugged: Los Tigres del Norte and Friends, which includes a DVD, will be available in stores on May 24.

With the KU4 you will discover why the KU3A has been part of high-end studio life for over 60 years.
AEA is honored to play a part in its history, and invites you to listen to the KU4 and claim your part of this legacy.
