Front End Audio Exclusive Distributor for Mooktronics

Front End Audio is pleased to announce that it is now the exclusive distributor of Mooktronics Research products. "I'm excited that Front End Audio will be distributing Mooktronics Products. The people at Front End Audio have the right knowledge of professional audio gear and it’s use combined with a great attitude and commitment to service that makes people glad to have chosen to work with them. It’s a great partnership", states Ben Mook; Mooktronics Research’s founder and designer.

Mooktronics’ first product is the PDI 500 - a passive Direct Injection module designed for the 500 series format offering the choice of either a Jensen or Cinemag transformer as well as a multiple pad settings. Though many 500 series microphone preamplifiers include direct injection on their front panels, a separate dedicated DI has it’s advantages. Mook explains, "Some engineers prefer the tone instruments produce when terminated to a transformer, and using preamps already available in the studio, one can open a whole new palette of colors.”

Alan Moon, Sales Manager at Front End Audio (who also shares a background as a studio tech in NYC) elaborates on using the Mooktronics PDI 500, ”It’s true that many outboard preamps feature onboard DI’s. However, just about every combo unit has an active input that the instrument terminates to. This inherently changes the natural tone of the instrument. So, terminating to a high – quality transformer makes more sense – and many professional engineers prefer the sound that they get with this passive design. Since the PDI 500 can be mounted right next to the preamp, the lead from the DI to the preamp can be extremely short, which helps to maintain a better impedance relationship and thus retaining more true detail across the frequency spectrum. Plus the flexibility of the 500-series allows musicians who like take control of their own sound to have both their PDI 500s, and the preamps of their choosing, cleanly mounted together in a travel-friendly lunchbox right next to them and their instruments on stage or in the studio. They just give the engineer a balanced line-level signal. This cuts down on potentially hundreds of feet of microphone-level signal loss. The PDI 500 really is part of a great solution for engineers and music”

Mooktronics Research was founded in 2007. Mook has worked as a studio tech for for high profile studios in both New York City and Los Angeles where his is currently studio tech for Conway Recording Studios. All products are hand assembled at Mooktronics’ shop there in Los Angeles and Mooktronics has their own CNC equipped machine shop all metalwork is done.
